Prescribing yoga postures and practices to your unique body and needs to reach your wellness goals.

What is yoga therapy?

Yoga therapy is the application of yogic principles to a person with the objective of achieving a particular physiological, psychological, or spiritual goal. The means used will vary from person to person based on their unique body, individual needs, and personal goals.

What is included in a yoga therapy session?

A yoga therapy session focuses on yoga as a life practice. At Mindful Movement, you will not only practice yoga postures for their physiologic benefit, but Dr. Emily will guide you in practices like mindfulness, meditation, breath control (pranayama), imagery, education, empowerment, and daily routines to meet your needs, and in line with your comfort level with yogic practices.

A yoga therapy session also includes exploration into thought patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that my be impacting and limiting your movement and overall health and well-being.

Yoga prescription is always done in consideration of you, your age, past medical history, lifestyle, past experience with yoga, and goals.

What is the focus in yoga therapy?

The application of Yoga therapy is from one or more of three perspectives:

1. The use of Yoga to gain a sense of power, i.e., to develop muscular power, the power to concentrate, the power to do difficult postures, the ability to work over and extended period of time, etc. (Dr. Emily's main focus based on her experience with Yoga therapy)

2. The use of Yoga to heal specific problems, such as eliminating impurities in the organs or energy centers and channels of the body.

3. The use of Yoga to go beyond the physical and to understand what is beyond the limited sense of self
